Historical Background

The Central Luzon State University faces the challenges of  regionalization and globalization. The ASEAN Community 2015 for instance, promotes the ASEAN identity as it prepares its people for regional integration from the point of view of academic and cultural exchanges. With this concerted initiative among higher education institutions in the ASEAN region, a vibrant Southeast Asian regional higher education area was envisioned. Thus in order to join in this cohesive direction of internationalization as part of the Philippine Higher Education Reform Agenda (PHERA), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has geared towards this vision by issuing several memoranda such as the ASEAN International Mobility for Students (AIMS) Program which is based on CMO No. 11 Series of 2014, the Policy – Standard to enhance quality assurance in Philippine Higher Education through an outcomes-based and typology – based quality assurance (CMO No. 46 Series of 2012) and the CMO No. 22 Series of 2013 on student internship abroad. Even before these initiatives, CLSU has a long history of embarking itself in internationalization efforts which was emphasized in its 2009-2013 Strategic Plan and was further reiterated in its 2014-2018 Strategic Plan. Its internationalization efforts can be manifested on an increased in the number of faculty scholars who completed their advanced degrees abroad, academic and scientific exchanges made among its international partner institutions and student internship both inbound and outbound. In order to sustain its efforts of putting CLSU in the global map and in order to be more visible and be more engaged pro-actively In the international arena, the International Affairs Office was established  on September 24, 2014 by virtue of Board of Regents Resolution No. 30 – 2014.
