CLSU eyes to beef up int’l mobility programs with partner South Korean Univ

A discussion meeting on International Mobility Programs was held between Central Luzon State University (CLSU) and Sunchon National University, aiming to strengthen academic collaboration and internationalization efforts between the two institutions.

Prof. Emil F. Ubaldo, Chief of the Mobility and Intercultural Exchange Unit of the CLSU International Affairs Office opened the meeting with a presentation on the different mobility programs offered by the university to its partner universities, academic policies, support offered to mobility programs, and CLSU scholars overseas.

Prof. Alona Badua, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Prof. Angeles De Leon, Dean of the College of Science further shared the internationalization initiatives of their respective colleges and their interests for mobility programs. In addition, the following faculty members also shared their on-going projects and interest for bilateral exchanges: Prof. Joice San Andres, Chair of the Department of Animal Science, Prof. Joan C. Ravago, faculty member of the Dept of. English and Humanities, Prof. Sharon E. Lazaro, Head of the Nanotechnology Research and Development Facility, and the Department of Information Technology representative Ms. Anjela C. Tolentino.

Officers from the International Affairs Office present during the meeting include Assoc. Prof. Parsons N. Hail, Director of the International Affairs Office; Assoc. Prof. Eduard C. Taganap, Chief of the Reputation and Visibility Unit; and Mr. Ariel Joseph J. Barza, Chief of Events and Services Unit.

Leading the delegation from Sunchon National University is Prof. Ki Chang Nam, the Vice President for Academic Affairs who expressed interest in expanding the partnership between his university and CLSU especially in research exchange, joint publication, graduate scholarship, cooperation in university rankings, Korean language training and others in the areas of smart farming.

Also, joining the SCNU delegation were Prof. Ji Hyun Kim, head of the Department of International Korean Language Education; and Professor Kang Seok So, head of the Department of Animal Resources Science and Dr. Lovelia Mamuad.

The SCNU delegation also expressed enthusiasm for sending its students to CLSU to undergo short-term English language programs, highlighting the university’s capability to provide quality education programs.

The officials from SCNU primarily came to CLSU for the proposed establishment of a Sejong Institute on campus.

Since 2002, CLSU alumni and faculty members have been actively pursuing graduate studies at SCNU and the tie between two institutions have produced 19 graduates and five are still actively pursuing their degrees.
