July 14, 2026

Jian Dane M. Ovejera, a Master of Science in Aquaculture student from the Institute of Graduate Studies (IGS) of Central Luzon State University (CLSU), is currently participating in the 2026 National Taiwan University Plus Academy Summer + Program on Biodiversity, Agriculture, and Culture of Taiwan (BACT) at National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan running from June 21 to July 22, 2026.

Notably, Mr. Ovejera stands out as one of only two Filipino participants selected to join this prestigious summer cohort. His participation is made possible through the University Consortium (UC) Student Travel Grant from the University Consortium Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA).

The Biodiversity, Agriculture, and Culture of Taiwan Program, offers an enriching academic and cultural opportunity for both international and local students of National Taiwan University (NTU) to explore Taiwan’s rich biodiversity, advanced agricultural systems, and vibrant Asian culture. The program aims to promote global learning, intercultural understanding, and sustainable agriculture education through an immersive and interdisciplinary approach.

Participants are expected to have field visits, institutional tours, hands-on activities, and laboratory exercises that will allow the students to observe Taiwan’s agricultural practices, experimental farms, fisheries, ecological sites, and to deepen their understanding of scientific concepts discussed during lectures.

Reflecting on his experience, Mr. Ovejera emphasized the profound impact of the program on his academic journey, “The program has been incredibly rewarding, allowing me to connect with peers from diverse nationalities and network with experts in aquaculture, agriculture, and biodiversity. It has significantly expanded my research perspective and given me a firsthand look at Taiwan’s technological innovations and sustainable management practices.”

This milestone underscores the vibrant and ongoing institutional collaboration between CLSU and NTU, further strengthening international partnerships and academic mobility in aquaculture, agriculture, and other allied fields.
