Agri student represents Philippines in Hiroshima University-sponsored AIMS Intensive Summer Programme for ASEAN+Japan students

August 19, 2024
A senior student from the BS Agriculture program at Central Luzon State University (CLSU) joined fellow students from the ASEAN region and Japan in the 1st Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS) Intensive Summer Programme, sponsored by Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Regional Centre specialising in higher education and development (SEAMEO RIHED) and Hiroshima University, held from August 1-8, 2024.

Arjan Chyler Manansala, who previously spent a semester as an exchange student at IPB University, was one of four Filipino students nominated by the International Affairs Service after a national-level screening.

The program, focused on "The Future of Higher Learning from Student Perspectives," brought together 19 students from 10 AIMS member countries and 10 Hiroshima University students to explore ideas and brainstorm solutions for creating a more student-centered and empowering higher education environment for future generations.

The AIMS Summer Intensive Programme for students was held in conjunction with the 18th Annual Review Meeting in Hiroshima, Japan, which was also attended by Dr. Emil F. Ubaldo, CLSU's AIMS Program coordinator and Manansala’s mentor.

Manansala received an 80,000 Yen scholarship and a round-trip airfare subsidy from the Student Development Initiative Appropriation.

During the one-week program, students attended lectures from Hiroshima University professors and participated in historical, cultural, and scientific tours. They were also given the opportunity to attend the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony.

The AIMS Program, an initiative of SEAMEO RIHED, supports student mobility and fosters cooperation in higher education among Asian countries.

By connecting governments, universities, and students, the AIMS program provides a multilateral platform for academic exchange and collaboration, strengthening regional integration and community building.
