Animal Science Grad Student, Faculty Researchers Represent CLSU at 8th JAAP Conference
Mr. Ronald Nuwasasira, an International Student from Bugema University, Uganda currently pursuing his Master of Science in Animal Science at the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) Institute of Graduate Studies (IGS) attended the 8th JAAP International Research and Development Conference (JAAP IRDC) at Negros Oriental State University (NORSU), Dumaguete City held on June 18-19, 2026.
Mr. Nuwasasira served as a plenary speaker, delivering a compelling presentation on his paper, “Unlocking the Potential of Multiple Ovulation and Embryo Transfer (MOET) in Water Buffaloes”. His comprehensive review synthesizes current knowledge on MOET development in water buffaloes, highlighting historical milestones, reproductive limitations, protocol refinements, hormonal strategies, embryo recovery innovations, and the role of international collaborations.
Further highlighting his academic standing, Mr. Nuwasasira also shared his expertise as one of the evaluators for the oral paper presentations. He served on the panel alongside esteemed global scientists, including Dr. Kiyohiko Nakasaki, Professor Emeritus at Tokyo Institute of Technology and Director of Institute of Plankton Eco-engineering at Soka University and Dr. Keichiro Koiwai, Assistant Professor at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology.
The CLSU delegation also achieved major awards at the conference. Leading the group was Dr. Karl Marx A. Quiazon, Director of the CLSU Freshwater Aquaculture Center and the President of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Alumni Association of the Philippines (JAAP). Joining them were Dr. Garry A. Benico, a faculty researcher from the College of Science and head of the Algal Diversity and Bioresources Laboratory (ADB Lab) who clinched First Place for Oral Paper Presenter in the Science and Health Category, and Ms. Andrea L. Dismaya, a Research Assistant from FAC and College of Fisheries who won the Best Poster Presenter award.
Reflecting on the experience, Mr. Nuwasasria expressed deep gratitude for both the academic and cultural aspects of the trip. “The warm hospitality from the hosts and high‑quality presentations that offered valuable scientific insights were the ultimate highlights for me,” he shared. “I also enjoyed visiting the beautiful beaches and waterfalls of Siquijor, and found the people of Dumaguete exceptionally gentle, kind, and welcoming.”
He added that his most inspiring takeaway was the opportunity to build global networks. “Most importantly, I was privileged to meet Dr. Yoshio Otani, Director of the JSPS Bangkok Office in Thailand, a distinguished leader I had long known from his contributions to science promotion. Interacting closely with him and his team, sharing discussions, and building lasting friendships was an unexpected yet deeply meaningful opportunity that greatly inspires my research and international collaboration goals.”
