CF Dean Joins ASEAN-FEN at IFS 2025 Pre-Event Meeting in Semarang, Indonesia
Dr. Hazel Monica M. Peralta, Acting Dean of the College of Fisheries at Central Luzon State University (CLSU), represented the university at the pre-event meeting of the Internationa Fisheries Symposium (IFS) 2025, held from April 24 to 26, 2025, at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK), Universitas Diponegoro in Semarang, Indonesia, in preparation for the main event this October.
As CLSU is an Associate Institutional Member of the ASEAN Fisheries Education Network (ASEAN-FEN), Dr. Peralta joined fisheries experts and academic leaders from across Southeast Asia in planning for one of the region’s most significant scientific gatherings in fisheries and aquaculture.
The pre-event meeting focused on refining event logistics, developing thematic sessions, and strengthening strategic global partnerships. Dr. Peralta actively participated in discussions tackling the urgent need for science-based responses to challenges such as climate change, overexploitation of marine resources, and habitat degradation. The IFS 2025 is envisioned as a platform to support research-driven policymaking, promote regional innovation, and build stronger networks among fisheries institutions.
Dr. Peralta also engaged in institutional networking sessions aimed at exploring opportunities for collaborative research, student mobility programs, and cross-border academic exchanges. These engagements with ASEAN-FEN core members and international partners are expected to lead to sustainable partnerships aligned with CLSU’s internationalization goals.
Among the institutions represented during the pre-event meeting were Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Can Tho University, Universitas Airlangga, Universitas Brawijaya, Kasetsart University, University of the Philippines Visayas, Hokkaido University, and others. These academic alliances are anticipated to foster joint projects, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and expanded research opportunities.
The International Fisheries Symposium 2025, to be held from October 6 to 9, 2025, in Semarang Indonesia, invites researchers, faculty, students, policymakers, and fisheries practitioners to participate in this key event shaping the future of sustainable fisheries and aquatic resource development in ASEAN countries.
