Three Students Successfully Complete ITS Virtual CommTECH Nusantara 2026
Three CLSU undergraduate students from the College of Agriculture and College of Home Science and Industry have successfully completed the Virtual CommTECH Nusantara 2026: The Secret of Indonesia Urban Legends & Horror Story hosted by the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya, Indonesia.
The 10-day program consisted of a dynamic blend of linguistic, geographical, and cultural exploration, allowing global participants to traverse the Indonesian archipelago through the lens of folklore and modern mysticism. The comprehensive curriculum featured a Fun Bahasa Class, East & Central Java Exploration, Sumatera Myths and Legends & Nusa Tenggara Exploration, Kalimantan Tour and Horror Tales, Sulawesi, Papua, and Indonesian Modern Creepy Pasta, Bali Tour and Horror Tales & Project Announcement, and a final Virtual Presentation & Project Exhibition.
Named as one of the Best Participants in the program, Sandy earned a Full Scholarship for the next international program hosted by ITS Surabaya. As a tourism student, Sandy was fascinated by how horror stories and myths preserve culture, values, and traditions across generations. She highlighted the legend Cindaku as a standout example, noting that such folklore does not merely exist to frighten but to teach profound lessons about protecting the balance between humans and nature.
For Decem, the program captivated her with the interactive activities which taught her new perspectives, values, and lessons about Indonesian culture and tourist sites. “I connected the program to my interest in paranormal experiences and my tourism course, as it introduced me to new destinations and shaped my behavior through moral lessons that grew within me.” She added.
Mark Jay expressed his memorable and meaningful experience where the program allowed him to learn more about Indonesia's rich culture, traditions, and fascinating stories while also appreciating the similarities between our countries. He also enjoyed the interactive activities, icebreakers, and Bahasa Indonesia lessons, which made every session fun and engaging. Most importantly, the kindness and energy of the speakers and organizing committee made him feel welcomed and comfortable throughout the program.
By supporting participation in programs like CommTECH Nusantara, CLSU remains committed to providing its students with accessible avenues to build international networks, broaden their global perspectives, and continues to underscore the importance of internationalization.
