International Students Experience Cordilleran Traditions Firsthand in Baguio
Underscoring its commitment to cross-cultural education and ecological awareness, the International Filipino Language and Culture Program and Green and Global Philippines: Language, Culture, and Sustainability Program 2026 Participants successfully concluded the Baguio City Cultural Immersion held on June 26-28, 2026.
The three-day cultural and environmental educational tour across the City of Pines provided delegates with an experiential understanding of significant parts of the Cordillera region’s unique heritage and sustainable community practices.
Participants explored and visited an array of historical, cultural, and ecological landmarks, including the Igorot Stone Kingdom and Tam-Awan Village for indigenous architecture, living arts, and ancestral storytelling, Baguio Museum where they witnessed the historical repository showcasing the vibrant heritage and ethnography of northern Luzon, Burnham Park and Mines View Park, the iconic natural and community spaces highlighting the region’s geography and local tourism ecosystem where they also had the chance to wear the traditional woven tapis (wrap-around skirt) or bahag (loincloth), garments that represent the rich culture of our fellow indigenous peoples in the Cordillera region.
This cultural immersion serves as a testament to the university’s growing footprint in internationalization initiatives providing a platform where language, heritage, and contemporary sustainability goals meet.
