CLSU officially welcomes 10 inbound students for SEA Teacher Pilot Batch 4, Regular Batch 10

February 3, 2025
The Central Luzon State University officially accepted 10 pre-service education students from four partner institutions for the implementation of the Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia (SEA-Teacher Project) Pilot Batch 4 and Regular Batch 10.

The SEA Teacher Pilot Batch 4 participants come from the University of Tsukuba (Japan), Khon Kaen University (Thailand), and Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (Indonesia). Spearheaded by the University of Tsukuba in collaboration with SEAMEO, this initiative aims to test the implementation of the SEA Teacher Project in Japan. The pilot program includes one participating university each from the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan, providing students with a unique opportunity for international teaching practice.

Meanwhile, the participants for Regular Batch 10 come from Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (Jakarta, Indonesia), CLSU’s newest partner in the SEA Teacher Project. Last year, two students from Phase 1 of Regular Batch 10arrived from Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), further strengthening academic exchanges between CLSU and its Southeast Asian counterparts.

Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, University President, and Dr. Ravelina R. Velasco, Vice President for Academic Affairs, welcomed the students during a courtesy call in their respective offices.

A formal welcome ceremony and orientation was held at the Visionary Leadership Gate, led by the International Affairs Office and the College of Education, with Dr. Parsons N. Hail, Director of the International Affairs Office, and Dr. Florante P. Ibarra, Dean of the College of Education, in attendance.
The pre-service teachers specializing in high school education have been deployed to the Center for Teaching and Learning – University Science High School, where they will gain hands-on classroom experience in a secondary education setting.

Meanwhile, those specializing in preschool education are assigned to the DepEd Elementary Laboratory School, allowing them to engage with young learners in a primary education environment.
At Central Luzon State University, the SEA Teacher Project is directly managed by the International Affairs Office and the College of Education through the Mobility and Intercultural Exchange Unit, headed by Dr. Emil F. Ubaldo, and the SEA Teacher Program Manager, Dr. Ma. Catalina D. Cadiz.

The inbound exchange students will undergo a month-long program designed to enhance their teaching skills and cultural exposure under the tutelage of their cooperating teachers from the host schools and mentors from the College of Education departments.

The Southeast Asian Teacher (SEA Teacher) Project, initiated by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), provides education students from Southeast Asia with international teaching experience and cross-cultural exchange opportunities. Through this program, students develop pedagogical skills, adaptability, and a deeper understanding of different educational systems. By immersing themselves in diverse classroom environments, they enhance their teaching competencies and cultural awareness, preparing them to become globally competitive educators.
