CLSU sends-off largest delegation of pre-service teachers for SEA Teacher Project
January 24, 2025
The International Affairs Office and the College of Education held the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar for 13 pre-service teachers and their parents as they prepare to embark on their journey for the SEA Teacher Project at the Academic Affairs Amphitheater, January 24.
The senior students are from various undergraduate programs within the College of Education and will stay at their host universities for one month. Six students will join Pilot Batch 4 and will be deployed to Khon Kaen University (KKU) in Khon Kaen, Thailand; Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) in Bandung, Indonesia; and University of Tsukuba in Tsukuba, Japan. Meanwhile, seven students will join Regular Batch 10 and will be assigned to Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara in Medan, Indonesia, and Universitas Ahmad Dahlan in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
The key resource speakers were Dr. Emil F. Ubaldo, Chief of Mobility and Intercultural Exchange Unit, who shared essential travel reminders and emphasized expected behavior in host schools; Dr. Sharon E. Lazaro, who provided valuable insights on Thai culture and customs; Dr. Jennifer T. De Jesus, who offered practical advice on navigating Indonesian culture; and Mr. Ariel Joseph J. Barza, Chief of Events and Services, who introduced key aspects of Japanese culture and its unique practices.
Dr. Ravelina R. Velasco, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Parsons N. Hail, Director of the International Affairs Office, encouraged the participants to create lasting memories while emphasizing their responsibility as ambassadors of both the university and the Philippines on the international stage.
Dr. Florante P. Ibarra, Dean of the College of Education, and Dr. Ma. Catalina D. Cadiz , program manager of the SEA Teacher Project, reminded the students that the exchange program will play a significant role in shaping their career development.
During the event, Ms. Rio Reyes, an alumna of Pilot Batch 2, shared her life-changing experiences with the SEA Teacher Project through a recorded video. She discussed how the program helped her secure her current master’s scholarship at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia through the Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) Scholarship, a financial assistance program offered by the Indonesian government to international students.
This batch marks a milestone for CLSU as the largest delegation in the history of the partnership with SEA Teacher Project, which includes participants from the 10th regular batch and the 4th pilot batch. This achievement underscores the university's dedication to fostering global academic collaboration and cultural exchange.
The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) initiated and manages the SEA Teacher Project since 2014. The pilot batch was launched by the University of Tsukuba in collaboration with SEAMEO and initially involved CLSU in the Philippines, KKU in Thailand, and UPI in Indonesia.
Financial assistance for the students was provided by the Student Development Initiative and the Office of the Vice President for Business Affairs.
In return, the University will welcome 10 students from the partner universities for Pilot Batch 4 and Phase 2 of Regular Batch 10. Previously, two students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara completed their exchange program during Phase 1.
Interested students who wish to join future mobility programs are encouraged to stay tuned at our social media platforms or email the Mobility and Intercultural Exchange Unit of the International Affairs Office.
