IAO hosts inaugural study abroad fair featuring alumni experiences during SIKAD 2024

August 19, 2024
The International Affairs Office, through its Mobility and Intercultural Exchange Unit, hosted its inaugural Study Abroad Fair featuring alumni from various student exchange and international mobility programs during SIKAD 2024 on August 13-14, 2024.

The two-day event was led by 34 alumni from the Colleges of Agriculture, Business and Accountancy, Education, Engineering, Fisheries, and Science.
These alumni set up booths at the International Affairs Office grounds, where they displayed information sheets, products, and merchandise from their host universities and organizations, along with photo documentation that captured the essence of their study abroad experiences.

To engage the students, the alumni organized various games and interactive activities inspired by their intercultural exposure.
"We featured our alumni because we want students to have a personal connection with them, to inspire them, ease any fears or worries they may have in doing study abroad programs, and hopefully encourage them. We aim to bridge the gap between those who have experienced our study abroad opportunities and those who wish to do so," said Dr. Emil F. Ubaldo, Chief of the Mobility and Intercultural Exchange Unit.

Dr. Ravelina R. Velasco, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, also graced the Study Abroad Fair, engaging with both alumni and students visiting the booths.

During her time as the Dean of the College of Fisheries, Dr. Velasco, together with Dr. Ubaldo, played a pivotal role in developing the student exchange program between CLSU and Kasetsart University in the aquaculture program.
Additionally, alumni of the SEA Teacher Project, which focuses on pre-service student teacher exchanges in Southeast Asia, conducted a dedicated information session for first-year students at the College of Education.

In addition, international students from Uganda shared their culinary traditions by hosting a tasting session featuring mandazi, a sweet, coconut-infused fried dough snack, and chapati, a versatile unleavened flatbread.
