US Embassy Manila officials, reps of int’l universities speak at the IAO’s hybrid study abroad fair

Officials from the US Embassy Manila as well as representatives from CLSU’s partner universities graced the hybrid study abroad fair organized by the International Affairs Office during the University Week, April 13, 2023.

Dr. John Groch, Public Affairs Officer of the US Embassy Manila, together with his colleagues, Mr. Nigel Henry Maranan, and Mr. Daniel Xavier Chua, attended the fair in person at the Research and Extension Amphitheater and discussed mobility opportunities for students at the United States including Fulbright scholarships, academic fellowship through the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), Youth Exchange Study (YES), Philippine Youth Leadership Program ( PYLP),Southeast Asian Youth Leadership Program (SEAYLP), Community Engagement Exchange Program (CEE), Study of the United State Institute (SUSI), Community Solutions Program (CSP), and local experiential learning programs.

Meanwhile, representatives from four international universities in Asia joined the session via Zoom session to discuss their respective institutions and programs for international exchange students.

Mr. Harfiz Rasul Mohammad of the University Kebangsaan Malaysia, Dr. Nomura Nakao of Tsukuba University, and Ms. Nik Nur Izzati Muhamad of the University of Sains Malaysia, all CLSU’s partner institutions under the Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS) of the SEAMEO Regional Center for Higher Education (SEAMEO RIHED), invited CLSU students to their respective universities. In addition, CLSU’s prospective partner in South Korea, Sejong University, also participated through its internationalization associate Ms. Julie Pineda.

Mr. Lloyd Emil D.C. Santiago, a BS Psychology student who represented CLSU in the UMAP Discovery Camp Winter in Indonesia, shared his experiences in the Discovery Camp and encouraged students to apply in the future editions of the program.

Dr. Renato G. Reyes, Vice President for Academic Affairs and concurrent director of the International Affairs Office, challenged the students to maximize the opportunities available for them from CLSU’s partner universities.

Dr. Emil F. Ubaldo, head of the International Mobility Unit, briefed the students that the IAO is available to assist students in fulfilling their study abroad goals through mentorship and consultation.

Students who missed the fair should keep an eye for other study abroad fairs to be organized by the IAO throughout the school year.

A total of 110 undergraduate and senior high school students attended the program in person.
